Default Hyperlinks in Word 2016 for Mac Yikes!

New post-new member. Please forgive multiple layers of ignorance. I believe the subject of "updating" hyperlinks across an entire Word document (In my case Word 2016 for Mac) has been addressed here before and even a Macro written, although I believe that one was written for a Windows environment.

I need to "travel" a document outside of my home computer and these links break if the wind changes direction (I can't even cut and past to another doc on my own computer Yikes!.) Is there an "Add-in" or Macro that will make these links--presently tied to files on my hard drive (files which I will include in folder) able to go out into the world on their own? (They were created with "add hyperlink" function in Word.)

Sitting here in Limbo.
PS I'd need help running a Macro if there were one. Baby steps here...

See the Word Fields and Relative Paths to External Files 'Sitcky' thread at the top of this forum. No macros required.

Macropod: I will follow your instructions to the letter (or forward slash as it were); will report back. Fingers crossed. A lot hangs on this fix.

I have followed instructions in yellow sticky religiously (saying a lot for this secularist) & got impossibly tangled up in the weeds: a confederacy of forward slashes. Would like to send PM, but authorization to do so? Pleas advise.

Without seeing a document containing your attempted implementation for at least one hyperlink, it's impossible to say what you're doing wrong. Help is not provided via Private Messaging.

For your consideration: examples from file in .doc form, mindful of the fact that I was completely unawares of any file naming standards or best practices (I.e. spaces), BEFORE i tried to implement any of your suggested fixes:

Thank you for the attempt, but we really could use an actual Word document file, not what you see in the file.
How to attach a screenshot or file in this forum.

You need to attach an actual document to your post. You can do that via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

I cannot see from your file any evidence of your attempt to implement the field coding from the link I provided. Nor is it apparent what the original hyperlink paths might have been, since the first part of each seems to be missing.

Default Hyperlink Full Path

Macropod: forgive me, had to find a way to display entire path (toggling the link in .doc file still truncated path). Think I found a good example. iPhone! Thank you for your patience.

HERE is what evidence I can provide in my attempt to implement file coding provided. After saving document in ".doc" format, and pressing Alt-F9, only a part of each of the hyperlink paths was revealed (I am presuming because of length). Only by toggling reveal codes OFF, then placing mouse over each link was I able to reveal full code, SOME of which took this form:
/user/charlesjohnon/foldername/filename
But not all of the hyperlinks followed this form (or showed this form in "reveal codes", some were considerably longer, and NONE of these hyperlinks contained ' C:'
Using 'Find and Replace' (given it only addresses exactly what is shown in Alt-F9 (reveal codes), the only entry that caught all of the hyperlinks was 'HYPERLINK".../' which got them all (693). So I replaced that with HYPERLINK and FILENAME\p. Because of the variation of what i am finding in the remaining portions of the codes revealed, I don't know what to do next. I am unclear how to implement your '\\images' example into my particular situation. Please advise. (Screen shot attached).

A colleague of mine, whose name is Sheila--you can see that (temporarily displayed in the file structure screen left) has been able to generate the attached display if this helps reveal the structure of the hyperlink files in this one Word for Mac document.

What is the location of the source document, the one containing the hyperlink, relative to the location of the other files?
