Normal.dotm reset
Normal.dotm saved to PC lost most its information (keyboard shortcuts, macros, styles, margins...) though keeping Do not Detect Language. What caused it (I did nothing), how can I recover it, and how I can prevent this in the future? |

In the User Templates folder, look for backups of the Normal template. The backups may have names such as Normal1, Normal2, PreNormal, NormalPre.
Losing the Normal template will only lose some settings, because Word's Option dialog boxes contain a mix of general options and options that are specific to documents or templates. It is not surprising that the "Detect language automatically" was unaffected, because it is not stored in the Normal template. It applies generally to Word as a whole (unlike all the other options in the Language dialog box).
