Default sorting on created paras - alphabetical by topic

source: word file having many subject headings each subject having several paras.
Each subject is complete and independent topic. I want to sort these bundles, A to Z for ease of locating a topic starting with its first word.

I have added an ID XXX at start of each such topic. Now can I sort paras of each topic as a bundle like XXX aaa, XXX aba ... in ascending order?
What I am doing now is that I am creating a list of topics by copying which I sort, but it is too much of work. Pls help.

I don't know of a built in way of doing this but here are a couple of ways of approaching this problem.

I assume you have set the topic title as a heading so you could build a table of contents to get the complete list of topics and then sort those paragraphs which you could print out as a reference. Then go to Outline view and collapse to just the headings and then manually drag the order around to match the sorted TOC output.

It might also be possible to create a macro to automate a process to achieve the same end. A logical process for the macro to follow might be:
Convert all the content into a two column table and put the heading in the left column and the section content in the right column before sorting on column 1. Then convert the table back to paragraph text with paragraph marks as separators.

If you post a sample doc, someone might be able to make other suggestions or provide a code sample that works.

Sir, Thank you for the trouble. I have created paras for each different topic which is in fact a heading only followed by explanation. Like x
Headache
.......
Fever
...... etc
I want to sort each as a full para with heading but sorted as fever, headache. The contents of para under Fever being carried along.

Have you considered using Word's Index feature?

No, I was not aware of this feature. I'll try it, and come back.

I don't know how an Index is going to help you sort the headings into an alphabetical order. It will certainly give you an alphabetically sorted list but it won't move the headings around.

Do you need this alphabetical sorting done on a regular basis or is it a one-off process that you are seeking?

If headings/ line made by me by adding an ID like XXX at start of each para get listed (all lines) somewhere, say top or to be saved separately, it'll serve my purpose because then I can sort these lines based on "XXX first word" and create a contents table. I am doing this table-making by deleting content under such paras and then sorting the list and pasting it at beginning of the book. It is time consuming.

Are you saying you just want a Table of Contents that is alphabetically sorted and not to actually rearrange the headings into an alphabetical order?

If so, do you want the TOC to be hyperlinks to the headings themselves?

An index will provide the first functionality but not make them hyperlinks.

You're right. Only list of all lines beginning with XXX (that was added by me). I can then sort them and using FIND navigate. Aim is locating some info if available quickly.
