Word 2010 stalls
When I click file/save the blue spinning circle appears, and Word 2010 stops working. It wont save, and I cant open another Word program. When I reboot the computer I can save one document, but the second time I try to do it, the blue spinning circle pops up and it stalls. Thanks to all who help. |

You may have a macro or third party addin running that is causing this problem.
Try opening Word in Safe Mode to see if you can save multiple docs. If that works, then you need to disable all addins you have running and verify it still works. Then enable the addins one at a time to work out which one is causing your issue.

That seemed to work for a while, but now it is back to stalling upon trying to save. The blue spinning circle pops up and it wont save. I have to close word using ctrl-alt-del, and I loose everything. I checked and all the add on boxes are still unchecked.
I went into control panel to repair Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010, but as the repair progresses a box pops up saying "Setup cannot find setup.exe. Browse to a valid installation source and then click ok." I browse to Microsoft Office, but it says that is not a valid selection. |

Reistall your Office 2010 from original media. You will need your product key.
You should be able to find that using KeyFinder. KeyFinder | Magical Jelly Bean |

I removed the old Office 2010 and reinstalled again. The problem persist. Excel seems to work fine. What is doing this?

I still think you need to look to your addins. Try disabling all addins including COM addins and see if you get normal behaviour.
View, manage, and install add-ins in Office programs - Office Support Office 2010 add-ins manager: how to enable, disable, add or remove add-ins? You could also verify that there aren't macros in your Normal template which might be interfering with Save. Perhaps rename your Normal.dotm template (while Word is closed) and see if the problem persists. Once you get to a point where the problem has resolved, you can add things back in one at a time to work out what is causing it.

Safe Mode avoiding the problem implies an addin or macro is responsible. Thanks for the screenshot to confirm the COM addins are disabled. The next thing to look at is whether there are any macros sitting around that could be coming in to play. If you open the VBA editor, are there macros in any of the loaded templates?
I also note the header of the screenshot shows you have Word for 'Non-commercial use'. Is that saying that you haven't got a paid version and it is disabled in some way. It may just be a 'teachers and student' version which shouldn't be knobbled. I haven't used Word 2010 for a long time and I don't recall how it was licensed and activated and whether it disabled save but it might be worth checking out.

Is this where macros would appear? I don't see any.

Look under the developer tab at document template.
Are any template Add-Ins shown? |

No, nothing there. Its an empty box, and no check marks.

Well this is an annoying problem.
Maybe try closing Word and rename your Normal.dotm template so Word creates a brand new fresh one. Perhaps there is a problem with that. Do you know where to find that template?
