Default Dropdown, font color of selected value, how to decide?

I have a couple of dropdown content controls in my .docx-file. Both of them have as "Please select a value"-state font color of red. This is how it also should be.

One of them has font color of black when they are in "Ok, I selected now something as the value"-state. That's how it should be. But one of them has red as the font color, while it should turn to black.

What's the property/setting that I'm missing here and should change to something in order to get the selected value with black font?

edit. Programmatic answer, especially VBA, is easily good enough.

Seems like Content Control Properties - "New Style..." - the color picker from there changes specifically the "Ok, I selected now something as the value"-state color.

The way I do this is by starting with the paragraph style and selecting the entire paragraph where the CC sits and applying the paragraph style to your preferred 'finished' look.

Next, ensure that the CC doesn't have a setting which overrides the paragraph style. On the Developer Tab, check the CC properties are set to either not use a style OR is set to 'Default Paragraph Font'

Finally, you set the styling for the empty CC by emptying the CC and change to Design Mode (on the Developer Tab), select the placeholder text and apply the Character Style called "Placeholder Text". Then turn off the Design Mode.
