Problem Updating a Multi-file TOC
I don't have a problem creating a multi-file TOC. However, the file names have changed and I have deleted the old "RD" fields, inputting new "RD" fields using the changed file names. The problem is the TOC update function includes the old file names as well as the new file names. The result is several error lines at the beginning of the TOC followed by the new correctly formatted TOC. I can't just delete the error lines leaving the correct TOC. How do I remove the links to the old file names? |

Try deleting the TOC field and recreating it.

Thanks, Charles,
I thought I had done that. I deleted both the TOC and the RD fields. Somewher in the document the old file names still exist. |

Create a new document with the RD fields and the TOC. Life is short.

In any event, with the field codes exposed, fixing the problem is as simple as changing the filenames in the RD fields.

Were you tracking revisions when you deleted the old RD fields? This could be the problem if you aren't showing deleted text.
