Increase indent adds 0.1mm ...?
This is a weird one ... when I use Ctrl + M to increase the indent of a paragraph ( assuming I can get it to understand that I want to increase the indent by 5mm rather than the default 12.7mm ), it sometimes increases by the correct amount of 5mm, sometimes by only 0.1mm, and sometimes by 5.1mm!!
I'm beginning to wonder if I've done something to offend the gods of Microsoft! |

Learn to use and apply styles to control your formatting. You will be much happier.

Ctrl+M would move the indent to the position of the next default or custom tab stop (whichever type comes first). That may explain the inconsistencies you have observed.
I agree with Charles that you should make use of paragraph styles, though.

I'm experimenting with the use of styles to see what difference it makes. As I've discussed in my other thread, the thing that complicates that, in this context, is the fact that the sheer volume of different styles that would be required is simply unmanageable. However, I can mitigate that if I use Ctrl+M or Ctrl+shift+M to set the indents, which considerably reduces the amount of permutations, but of course that only works if Ctrl+M and Ctrl+shift+M increase and reduce the indentation by precisely the right amount every time. As far as I can tell from experimentation thus far, removing any individual tab stops ( should you have to do that ...? ) and setting the default tab stop does not necessarily cure the problem - although weirdly, the adding of 0.1mm to the indent amount only happens some of the time.

There is no way that the volume of styles would be overwhelming. Not if you are using them properly.
If you are applying different formatting to every paragraph, it is no wonder you are overwhelming Word's capability to keep track of what you are doing. Indent for what? Does this involve bullets or numbering? Table of Contents? |
