Default A track changes question

I have two separate word docs, both with track changes on them. I want to create one single doc, by copying the second doc to the end of the first. And I want to maintain all of the track changes.

I've tried a simple copy paste, and also tried the official 'append' function. In both instances, the only track changes in the copied document, to be transferred across to the new complete doc, is the formatting. So all my deletions, and insertions etc from the second doc seem to disappear. Even when I change the review setting to "Original showing mark-up' it won't show all the changes made to the second document before it was copied over.

Is there a way I can do this, to be left with one long document showing all the original tracked changes? Thanks!!
