Default Combined Styles

Hi guys,

Hoping you can help me out.

I'm formatting a document and every time I apply a style Word automatically creates a new style from the existing style and the new one. For instance, when applying a style called "Main_Text" Word then creates a separate style called "Main_Text ++ Body (Calibri 14pt)" or when I put a paragraph style over an existing character style it does the same with something like "Text_italic + Not Italic"

Can you tell me where the setting is to stop Word doing this is, as it's really messing up my attempts to format a manuscript.

I'm on Word 19

Thanks!

"Main_Text + Body" etc. would indicate a style plus direct formatting, not a new style.

In the affected document, you can click the Options link in the Styles pane (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S). In the Style Pane Options dialog box, clear all options under "Select formatting to show as styles." See screen shot.

... and. start using real styles rather than direct formatting for most of your formatting.
