Default Removong a Word document's comment column

Hi everyone,

To delete a Word document's comment column with Word 2019, I selected all, chose "No Markup" and watched the column disappear. But after I then saved the document, my boss still saw that column with Word 2010. What do I need to do to delete that column? Thanks. --Bill

A Word document can contain markup but it is up to the individual user's display options to determine whether this markup is visible on screen (or in printouts). There is a security 'feature' which automatically shows all markup by default when a document is opened which is why you would need to manually 'hide' the markup each time the document is opened.

To avoid this, you need to ACCEPT all tracked revisions and REMOVE all Comments rather than just hiding them. To do this, go to your Review tab and choose:
1. Changes > Accept > Accept all changes and stop tracking
2. Comments > Delete > Delete all comments in document

Thank you, Mr. Lockton. That solved the problem.

Now if I could only arrange footnote numbers horizontally and automatically to shorten the document, that would help a lot.
