Save As is F12.
Or Pizza Button > Save As The save icon only saves your document using the current name. If you are opening a document making changes to make a different document and then saving that under a new name, your original document should be template. Then you can use it with File > New to create a new document with all of the content. Templates in Microsoft Word Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 05-08-2020 at 05:33 PM. |

Just so we're all on the same page...
When you use the Save icon, you generally don't see anything happen on the screen--Word just saves the file--with the current name--in the background. The only exception to that is when a new file is saved--the Save As box opens so you can name the file. Save As opens a dialog box that gives you the opportunity to rename, or change file type, or location, etc. When the dialog box opens, the Save button should already be active--you're saying that the Save button is inactive? Could you provide a screenshot? Have you tried renaming the file in Windows Explorer? |
