Default Word MetaData

Hi

Is there a comprehensive list of Word metadata other than those found in
File...Info...Show All Properties

I'm creating a database to capture document properties so I need a full list of metadata to create a efficient table.

I'll use VB.Net to scan for the metadata when I import the document into my bespoke system

Thanks

"Metadata" includes more than document properties.
Do you simply want a list of built-in document properties?
Do you also want custom document properties? Those will not be in any list I could provide. The same is true of document variables.

Here is a link to an old page of mine on the subject. It has not been updated for some time.
Confidentiality and MetaData in Microsoft Word Documents

You may want to look at this page Word Macros and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) FAQ. Search for the word "properties" to see some tested code for dealing with document properties. These were written before ribbon versions but work in Word 2019.

Default Where can I obtain a full list of Word/Excel/Access etc MetaData information

Thanks Charles.

This is where I'm getting confused and had hoped that a definitive MetaData list existed

If I use a quick VBA code using ActiveDocument.BuiltInDocumentProperties
I get a fair few document properties

However, if I use the ExifTool I get a whole lot more which aren't in the VBA code

I am guessing that you are getting Word properties with one and Windows file properties with the other. This is beyond my level of experience.

Others who respond here may be able to help more.

There are a lot of places for metadata to hide and Microsoft if not at all consistent with where it could be and how the field name matches what is shown in the GUI.

Besides the built-in document properties you should also check out the custom xml files, document variables and the custom document properties.

Some of what your ExifTool screenshot is showing isn't document metadata at all; it's operating system metadata relating to the file.
