Default Unexplained indent

Hi everyone. Hopefully someone can help me with this. In an MS Word document that I am trying to edit (not created by me) there is an unexplained indent in one of the paragraphs. It appears to be "line" related. There are no spaces or tabs, nothing in the ruler at the top. In this particular document, the indent is on line 18. If I add a return between the paragraphs, the indent remains at line 18, but is now whatever was above it. It is so hard to explain, maybe a visual.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

If I add a return above the paragraph it would look like this.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

If I eliminated the space between paragraphs, the intent would then be on this first line of the example above.

I am losing my mind. Somebody please help!
