How to use autotext/quick parts to change a string of characters to a certain word (Word 2016)
Hi,
I'm using Word 2016 and I want to change things like ofc to of course by pressing F3, but when I try to add this, there's no option to add a text trigger - I can only add "of course" and then get it when I type part of that string. So how would I add custom text like "ofc" so that I can get "of course" by pressing F3? Thanks. |

You can do this two different ways
Method 1. Create an autocorrect so that you type ofc and then add a space to have it automatically change to of course. Method 2. Create 'of course' as a Building Block with the name ofc so that you can press F3 after typing it to force the change. The first method would be less work to use in practice. Are you sure you want the Building Block method?

AutoText uses four unique characters as a trigger. AutoCorrect could work with ofc.
These are separate features with a similar name. Automated Boilerplate Using Microsoft Word AutoText is a type of Building Block that predates Building Blocks. |

As Charles wrote, AutoCorrect would seem to be appropriate in this case.
Unformatted AutoCorrect entries are stored in separate files (*.acl), one file per proofing language.
