Default Replace an Odd Character from HTML Text

Using Word 2000 on a Win 10 computer:

When I cut the contents of an HTML document and then use Paste Special to paste it into a Word document, lots of "characters" like the ones shown below appear. I tried using Replace to get rid of them but I don't know what to put into the Find field.

If I copy the character and try to put it in the Find field, it won't go.

What are these characters and what code can I use in the future to search and replace them?

I think I resolved my problem:

I copied the little circle and the character that preceded it and pasted them into the Find field. Then I removed the first character (a colon in this case) and typed a space in the Replace field. That took care of the little circle characters.

Nevertheless, I would like to know what the code for the little circle characters is.

The degree sign represents a non-breaking space. [Typo corrected]

In a Word document, you can add such a space by pressing Ctrl+Shift+SpaceBar.

It is a non-breaking space. The little degree character does not print. The space does.

Sorry, it was a typo on my part. Non-breaking space is the correct terminology, as Charles said. :-)

I have now corrected my previous reply.
