Word indents whole text instead of first lines
I had the "normal" style of my document set to indent only the first line of every paragraph by 0.6cm. This worked for a while. However, somewhere in trying to sort out the nightmare of section numbering, something changed. Now, even though the style settings still say that the "normal" paragraphs are only indented on the first line, in fact every line of every paragraph is indented by 0.6cm, meaning that I no longer have a first-line indent. How do fix this?

If you still run into issues after Charles's solution, you might also try selecting the affected text, clearing the styles, and then reapplying whatever style you are using. It's a workaround but has sometimes come in handy for me, although of course is not practical in some situations. You can also record macros to clear styles, apply them, and jump to the next paragraph if you want to do a bunch of them fast, again only if it makes sense for the document at hand and other solutions aren't working.

Thanks for your replies.
I did, after a great deal of frustration, eventually find that I could select all instances of a particular style at once by right-clicking on the style in the Styles pane, and then reapply the style to all those instances with one click. |
