Default Fields

Hello,
I'd like to ask for advice with automatisation of fields. I'm writing my thesis where I use a lot of citations drawn from a corpus, with analysis thereof below the citation. I separate the citations from the body of the text, and number each citation. Then, in the body of the text I'd like to have a field reference to the citation, so that when I reorganise the examples, the numbering of the citation and the in-body fields match. Here's an example:

"(33) Kenneth Clarke [to Kenneth Weetch (Lab)]
It may assist the hon. Gentleman in arguing his case if he knows, before he goes into the general principles underlying the argument, that I propose to accept the amendment on behalf of the Government.

Immediately afterwards, Clarke offered his ‘advice’ in (33). He echoes the entirety of Weetch’s speech..."

If I move this whole part around, the numbering of the citation will automatically adjust itself, as it is a a list. But the in-body reference (33) will not. How to link them together?
Cheers!

Look into the Footnote/Endnote feature. It should be on the References tab. You can have both Footnotes and Endnotes in a single document.

In addition to Charles's comment, you can use a cross reference to the footnote or endnote in the text and you can change the endnote separator to the title of your endnotes page. Cross references don't automatically update, but you can use a macro to update them e.g. the example macro at Installing Macros

If you are making extensive use of endnotes, you may find Endnote useful? There is a student discount available.
