LINK field path will be updated automatically
only when you set the update option "Automatic"
and the linked files are in same folder structure.

For example, if your folder and files are structured like this;


./master.docx
./linkedfiles/1.docx
./linkedfiles/2.docx
.
.
.
these can be saved as a zip file and send them to any colleague in your office.

LINK, HYPERLINK, INCLUDETEXT, INCLUDEPICTURE & RD field paths will not update the way you imply. The paths are always absolute.

Kindly read the Word Fields and Relative Paths to External Files 'Sticky' thread at the top of this forum for instructions on the correct way to implement relative paths - which in any case cannot be done for LINK fields.
