Dear friends, who came across this, please consult me a bit. In Word 2003 (yes, I'm still using it) I have a huge text in which the index is made using INDEX and XE fields. In Page Setup, I obviously can adjust the page settings, including the size of the margins. But as soon as I update the index (by pressing F9 on it, for example), the margins within all the document are reset to the settings, which I used some time ago (1 cm from all sides). I don’t understand what is going on. If I check the "Index 1" style settings - I don’t see anything, what can affect the whole document. Please tell me where to look for the root of the problem.

Without actually seeing the problem document, it can be difficult for anyone to diagnose the issue. Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

An index may add a Word section (if the number of newspaper columns is different from that of the rest of the document), and a section may affect the margin settings.

However, as Paul suggested, it will be useful if you upload an example document for us to look at.
