Spaces extend off page when typing

Just noticed that when typing spaces at the end of a sentence the spaces continue off the edge of the paper to an invisible extent to the right then finally show up on the next line. In all my years of using MS Word, I have never experienced this. Example paragraph is attached. I checked some historical documents. They have the same issue.

Have I just missed something? I realize the paragraph is full justified.

I am recently modifying MS Word files created by Adobe Acrobat. I am wondering if the converted files have switched a setting in Word.

Do I have a setting wrong?

Open the document. Start adding spaces to the right of any word on the right side of the paragraph. If it happens as with my MS Word program, spaces will continue off the right side of the page for an unknown distance until a character is typed.

Is this typical?

Here's an easier check opposed to opening the file:
When I open a New Blank Document (CNTRL N), I can space off the right side of the page. Spaces do not continue on line 2.

Is this typical?

The behaviour is quite normal.

Basically, until you enter a non-space character, Word assumes that you're just leaning on the space bar.

Word files created converting from another file format will always be a problem to edit.
