Copy Text from YouTube into Word
Hello, I am trying to copy text from a YouTube transcript into Word. However, the formatting is not working properly. The text being pasted in Word only goes halfway across the page, instead of the full length. For example, the first line in Word will read "I went to the supermarket yesterday" and the second line, beneath it, will read "and bought some apples." The left "column" of the Word document contains lines 1 and 2, but the right "column" is completely blank. Note there are no real columns, as it should be one continuous sentence using the entire page left-to-right and read "I went to the supermarket yesterday and bought some apples" all on line 1. Can you help? Thanks so much!

Thank you, Charles! Unfortunately, it looks like that link only provides generic reformatting tips. Do you have any help for my specific problem? Thanks in advance!

If you want a more specific solution, we'll need more specific information.
It would really help if we could see the youtube transcript file and the Word file. |

Indeed! I didn't realize I could attach documents. I have attached the Word document. The YouTube transcript is here: Another Intelligent Atheist Changes His Mind - YouTube - you click the three small dots ... that are located just beneath the video next to the 'save' button, then you select 'open transcript' and that's where I copy the text that I want.
I hope this is a better explanation of what I'm looking for. If not, please let me know so I can be more specific. Thanks! |

Thanks, I didn't know I could add attachments. I replied with the attachment and am awaiting moderator approval for it to be seen.

The attached file shows the document with on-printing symbols displayed.
Basically, the text only goes halfway across the page because that's where the paragraph markers are. I have no way of knowing, but I suspect that the YouTube text export function puts them there. To get rid of the breaks, make non-printing symbols display by pressing Ctrl-* (Ctrl-Shift8). You can also go to the Home Menu ribbon and press the paragraph symbol to the left of the Style Gallery. Once the breaks are visible, delete them. You don't have to display the paragraph breaks to delete them, but it does make it easier. Hope this helps! |

Read Suzanne's article, too. It would have lead you to that solution.

fwiw, when I have to copy/paste text that may have unwanted line-breaks I often use a text editor first: select a paragraph's worth of short lines, press (for instance) ctrl+J, single paragraph.

Thanks for all that info guys. I got the paragraph breaks to appear and, of course, can manually delete them. But how would I go about deleting all of them? There will be tens of thousands I'll have to delete. I went to "find/replace" and "special" to replace paragraph character, but no luck. And I didn't find it in the links provided, although I could have overlooked it. Any ideas? Thanks.

Replace ^p with a single space.
This us is still going to be a mess. |

Woohoo! That worked! I was replacing ^p with nothing, instead of a single blank space. Thanks again! |
