Section Breaks in Long tables
My problem is I have long tables that rolls across several pages. When I must make a change to an entry, I need to place a Change # in the footer.
This is no problem with non-tabular text, but if I attempt a section break in a table, the table breaks. I can copy the header row over but not the table captions. (If I do, the caption number rolls.) I suppose I could just type in the caption without a Caption tag, but if there are several rows that need to be changed (after the change I made), a complete mess will result with all those typed captions and broken tables. The footers can easily be hosed up as well particularly if the change numbers apply to multiple (new) tables occurring on a single page. Seem to me Microsoft should provide a means to place a section break in tables such that the section breaks doesn't break the tables. |

No, you cannot put a Section break into a table. If you want the caption to repeat on all pages, incorporate the Caption into the table, as it's first row and include that row as a table header row.
As for inserting a Change # in the footer, that can be accomplished by inserting it after the table. Alternatively, you might consider using footnotes instead of compromising the page footer.
