Default Pressing letter key twice to get another letter?

Hello

I would like to add a function in word so that when I press the letter 'a' twice, i.e. when I write 'aa' it automatically becomes 'ā' instead. I tried doing this with the Macros function, but I wasn't able to have the keyboard shortcut 'aa', I could only assign special keys like F1 as keyboard shortcut keys. Maybe I used the Macron function incorrectly.

Please tell me how I can make Word automatically write 'ā' when I write 'aa'.

You could create an autocorrect entry for 'aa' (or better still #aa) to ā.

Thanks, that kind of works, although only when you write 'aa' separately. Is it possible to make it happen also when you write 'Maa' or any other letter in front of (or after) the 'aa'?

And is it further possible to make it distinguish between capital and miniscule letters? So that

'aa' becomes 'ā' but
'AA' becomes 'Ā'

For the capitals, AutoCorrect is not case-sensitive as to triggers so you need a different series of characters or, for instance, you might use aaa for the upper-case version.

Also, try to not have your triggers be something that might be typed ordinarily where you do not want the change. In cases where it changes and you do not want the change, remember Ctrl+Z (undo).

Ok

What about making it autocorrect irrespectably of what's before or after the 'aa' ?

Is there any character that acts as "wildcard" - i.e. meaning "could be any letter". If for example $ was the wildcard character, then having $aa$ would mean no matter what you write in front of or after aa it would still become ā.

So writing for example Maac would become Māc, 1aa would become 1ā or aad would become ād.

How can you do that?

The short answer is that you can't, unless you create several autotexts e.g. Maac to Māc. You could perhaps remember that when you want ā you could type ALT+0257 from the numeric key pad.
