Default Excel Object changing to Picture Image

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else is having their inserted Excel Worksheet changing to an uneditable picture image after they have saved the document?

I have had these documents for a long time working with them consistently and it is now only just happening.

Cheers

Nicole

Are you saving your document as a docx format?
Is the worksheet editable UNTIL you save the document but not after?
Are you using Paste Special and a particular format when you paste the workbook into Word?

The document is saved in a docx format, it is editable until I save and close the document, I can edit it after I save, but not when I reopen it after closing.

No copying and pasting is involved at all, I insert it using Objects.

I'm wondering if this is a security feature. Presumably, a document containing a link to an external file would be a security risk because it contains the file path and allows more than just the visible table to be viewed when you open the workbook for editing.

Are you using the document inspector to cleanse your docx file? Are there security settings applied to this doc?

Nothing like that at all, I have been using the same template (a docx document itself not a dotx) for 2 years, the excel object is not linked to any other document at all, just a worksheet saved within the document. I just open the document, the excel object works, then I save as, which it then continues to work, but when I then close it an reopen it the object has then changed to a picture.

All of this doesnt happen 100% of the time, it is at about 50% at the moment, the other 50% I can still access the object. It was happening randomly a few months ago, but in recent days it is really escallating, I am wondering if Microsoft has put an update out which is causing it

I'm afraid I don't have any other suggestions. I don't embed Excel workbooks in Word docs so I haven't seen this behaviour and I can't think of any other plausible reason this might happen.

Since it is 'random' it is going to be pretty hard to diagnose. Can we identify something that removes the randomness?

Is there something special about the place you are saving the Word file? Are they saved to your hard drive or a CM system like Sharepoint? Do any of the docx files say they are in Compatibility mode?
