How to create endnotes with hyperlink references

I can't seem to figure out how to create endnotes with reference number that are hyperlinks. Once an endnote is created, I can refer a second section of text to it and there I have the option of making it into a hyperlink. But I don't see how to make the original reference into a hyperlink.
