Default how do i overlap text purposely

windows 8.1, word 2003

i am working with a document that is about 120-150 pages (unknown at this time)

i have been changeing the font size and it makes massive jumps in page numbers by small changes

I am wondering I am useing microsoft word 2003 and useing the font Gabriola which uses some long F's and maybe others.

I was forced to use the setting exactly and 1-2 sizes larger than the font to make it show it all because without this it was double lined, is it possible instead of doing that and takeing allot of pages to do so, can i overlap the text from one line to the next, haveing that long f over overlap into other lines or at least partially

or is it possible to greatly reduce the space inbetween lines
makeing changes like this is makeing a desturbing amount more pages

Most fonts, when you give them insufficient line heights cut off ascenders and descenders. They will white-out that area of the line.

Do not try putting too much text into fewer pages. Like narrow margins and single-spacing, it makes text much harder to read.

i am trying to put it into a reasonable spacing im hoping that the top or bottom of this
fancy font will hang over into either the middle space between words or into the other text

If you set the line spacing too tight in Word then it will appear that the characters are cut off
BUT
If you then save the document as a PDF, the full text will show with the overlapping ascenders/descenders.

Gabriola is a calligraphy type font where the text line spacing metrics are very different to other typefaces. You should look around for another typeface that has different metrics.

If you really want Gabriola with tighter line spacing and aren't going straight to PDF then Word is NOT the program for you. Try Microsoft Publisher instead.

If it is rtf or doc you will have the same problems.

I'm telling you that Word displays the text cut off - there is no point in using other software to create Word documents. You would use Publisher to get a tool that allows you to tighten Gabriola without losing the ascenders and descenders when viewing the file.

If you want to produce Word documents then your only viable option is to change the typeface to something other than Gabriola.

isn't there a way to have the font to go into the blank space in between the sentences

if not is there a way to make the space in between the sentences smaller

in this way i make the font boundaries bigger(using exact option) while making the space in between smaller

Your issue is not commonly experienced but it is exacerbated by the particular typeface you have chosen to use. Word won't display ON SCREEN text that overlaps with following lines. However it will output it with overlaps if you choose to PRINT it or SAVE it to PDF. It just doesn't show it on screen.

Other programs will show the text lines overlapping on screen - including Microsoft Powerpoint and Publisher.

Sentences are usually separated by a period and either one or two spaces. If you have two spaces, you can delete one of them quite easily to reduce the space between those sentences. I would recommend you retain the period and one space.

As you have probably worked out, terminology is important. Are you asking the same question but substituting the word 'sentence' where you really mean 'line' or 'paragraph'?

i meant vertically up and down, i dont know the correct terminology, not spaces after a period. so i probably meant how do you make the spaces in between the lines smaller
