Default Link ccDrop Down list to auto populate ccPlain Text

I've looked at multiple threads that pretty much provide all you need to begin this process in your document, but as I am new to macros I cant figure out how to make it work or properly edit it to work in your document.

This link was very helpful and included a document that proved you can make it work. I just can't get it to work. https://www.msofficeforums.com/word-...html#post46903

I'm simply trying to do 2 things. Create a drop down lists of name at the start of the document that will then auto populate a field for a phone number at the end of the document.

The second one is pretty much identical except I will replace name and number with code and description.

This is all for a template to be used by inspectors.

*also hoping this can be used to mimic a date entered into a cc plain text field to another section in the document.

Any help is much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure this thread will be more applicable
https://www.msofficeforums.com/word-...drop-down.html

I highly recommend using a Date Picker Content Control rather than a Plain Text CC for holding dates.

Best method so far. Quick and easy. Wish I found that thread before. Thanks for the help; greatly appreciated!

Actually ran into a problem now. The method worked when I used it to link a drop down of names to a plain text for numbers, but when I added another one for a date picker cc to a section to mimic the date everything is mapped to whatever drop down list I use. So for example, if I choose a date using the date picker, the section for names and phone numbers now show that date too. And vis versa when I use the Name drop down list.

You can't just keep using the same xml element for different purposes - there are others to pick from.

IMO, if you have a single date that you want to use in multiple places, you should use the built-in Insert > Quick Parts > Document Property > Publish Date.

The instructions I gave were for a one-off demonstration. If you have a number of fields and the built-in labels are restrictive, do some research and learn about Greg Maxey's tool.

Here are some good methods of adding Mapped Content Controls:

In my opinion, any of these is easier than deciphering the methods involving the XML controls on the Developer Tab. Perhaps I am simply lazy.

I see. I chose a different coreProperty for each and that has worked, though it may cause problems down the road. I just found it hard to understand the method Greg Maxey used to link the drop down list and plain text. Super beginner here. I do appreciate all of your(plural) insight.
