Readability Tool not checking the entire doc in Word 2007
After selecting the entire document, I run the spelling/grammar/readability index.
Specifically, the index result says it is only checking 71 words, altho the document is over 2800 words long. The problem developed overnight about 3 days ago and now I can't fix it. I have cleared the Do not check spelling and grammar box in every single header and footer, along with the language options, but the resulting numbers provided are much too low. I am continually receiving the "text marked do not check for spelling and grammar..." error message. I properly marked the Check spelling and grammar in the Word/Options selections also. Does anyone have any further ideas? [from Older thread post - moved] I have tried the solution listed above and have cleared the Do not check spelling and grammar box in every single header and footer, but the resulting numbers provided are much too low. [Edit by moderator:] This is marked as solved in that the problem appears to be a bug in Word 2007 that was fixed in later versions (and may have been fixed in an Office update to 2007) The solution appears to be to use a different version of Word! The message suggests that at least one text range (= a sequence of one or more text characters) has been marked with "Do not check spelling and grammar" formatting (found in the Language dialog box).

Thank you Stefan. I will start a new thread, however, I cannot see where there is any text marked as do not check. I suspect, altho I haven't counted, that it is only analyzing my footnotes. 71 words sounds about right for that.
Thanks. |

Select All does not see them. If you are in the footnotes when you select all, you only select footnotes. |

I see what you mean Charles, however, I am in the body text when I select all and I can tell that because all that text is highlighted.

I did try that, but nothing happens. I have a new computer bought in the UK, maybe that's why.

Do not check ...

Even if there is, I don't see how it is possible that 2700 other characters have been marked with do not check. Also, I also get the option whereafter it runs one check, it asks if I want to check the remainder of the document. I have tried saying yes, and then the word count checked goes up to 79. |

Text marked as "Do not check spelling or grammar" can be anywhere in the document, for example, in a header or footer which isn't even visible (because it resides in a section where not all headers/footers are shown at the moment). Try searching for "Do not check spelling or grammar" formatting in the Find & Replace dialog box (Ctrl+H).

I did try Control-A, which did select all, but did not change the results of the Readability score. Thank for trying Charles.

Can you share the Word document? You can upload it here. You may have to click the Go Advanced button at the bottom of the thread first; after that, you should see the Manage Attachments button which lets you upload the document.

I did find two instances of "Do not check spelling or grammar formatting" in a footnote and in a footer (see screen shot).
