Problems setting up a large Word2019 document ...
Before starting my request I would like to wish you all a very, very happy 2020 !!!...
a few months ago I started the update of a catalog made 10 years ago... the original where in separate 8 paragraphs and the upgrade was quite important so actually I have to combine 8 files of about 10MB each, give them a new numbering and convert them into PDG for the printer !... As I am a newbee I would be very interested in receiving some support: - how to combine those 8 documents ? - how to renumber the total file ? - how ro convert the final document in PDF ready for the printer ? I would like to add that a first attempt to remove the old numbering from the first chapter (20 pages) did NOT work !!! Only a few pagenumbers were removed and I had to remove all the remaining separedly... then when I tried to renumber the chapter only a few pages got their numbers... problems... problems !!! I absolutely need help ! PLEASE ... |

This is a holiday in our part of the world so do not expect a bunch of replies.
Here are some references:
Paragraphs? How easy it is to combine documents depends on how they are oriiginally set up. Try, with copies:

Thank you Charles...
combining the documents was quite easy, BUT... NO solution at all for the page numbering ! I am working with Word 2019 and none of your refered articles gave me the solution; As it was impossible to remove the 'page numbering' nor the 'page footers' prior to combining I now have plenty of pages with identical numbers and, once again... no way (that I know) to remove/to arrange numbering.... ???? any suggestion, please ? |

I managed to delete all previous page numberings but it ook me more than 50 'delete' clicks (I suppose that was because of my document contain multiple sections)...
But now, before trying to renumber the pages of the whole document, I encounter another serious issue: Checking the document (86 Mo) and readjusting some faults I got error messages that Word reached the max size and had to close !!!... When I reopen the file and try to work out some corrections suddenly the total layout crimps on the left side of the page and becomes unusable ... even when I try to save my work I got the same faulty issue... Please help me ; what can I do ? |

I assume you still have your original files.
Go back to them. Are these documents .doc or .docx files? The following will let you sequentially number all pages in a Word document. Continuous Page Numbering Add-In |

The original files (2009) were .doc files; the upgraded files are .docx files (Word 2019) ...
I installed the ADD-Inn and ran it... unfortunately ... NO numbering ! (see add) - Please how to cope with the max size Word-error ???? |

The macro worked fine. Your page numbering is continuous. It does not add page numbers where they are not, though.
Go to any page without a page number and double-click where you want the page number to be. Option 1: Press Alt+Shift+P Option 2: Type the following: Page Select that word and press Ctrl+F9 and then F9. Option 3: Use the Page number button to insert a page number at the current location. Thanks Charles, I succeeded numbering about 90% of the complete document but now Word 2019 is continuously locked up with an error message (see add) !
Even if I open a single file (documents of only 11 pages) I got the same error when simply scrolling down... I tried a full repair of MS Office but after I still have the same issue !!! I wonder what's wrong ??? |

It is not Word that needs to be repaired but your document. Probably the last one that you added.

sorry Charles, but my files were NOT corrupt !
I launched them on another computer and they open normally and allow working on them ! So I guessed that the Word 2019 on my laptop was corrupt ! I tried to uninstall it completely following MS instructions but a reinstallation gave me same issue ! Finally I removed it again, deleted some registry lines regarding office, and reinstalled it... and now it is working again !!!... and I am a happy man! Thanks a lot for your assistance. - a last question please: the final size of the docx file is 86Mo (353 pages); what is the best way to convert it to a printer-ready PDF-file ? use the incorporated option 'save as PDF' or better not ?? |

Both Save as PDF and Print to Microsoft PDF work fine.
