Default Headers won't hold formatting

I have several documents where the headers and footers are italicized. When I open them, several section's headers are no longer in italics. It is usually only a few words of the header, not the whole thing.

The headers use a STYLEREF that looks like this: {STYLEREF "Table H1" \*MERGEFORMAT } The result it generates is: Topic 1: Planning for a Successful Year-end

I do want to make clear that this happens only in one or two sections; the others work OK.

Can anyone tell me what might be causing this? Thanks
