How to add different text to accompany page number in different sections
Hello,
I have a Microsoft Word 97 - 2003 document that has 10 different sections. Some sections have 'page numbers with special text' in each footer. The actual page numbers in each section start at one and are increased by one for each subsequent page. The accompanying page number text with the page number is the same in each section. The text changes in each section. There aren't any accompanying text in the first two sections of the document. Anyway, I can't seem to produce page numbers with different text in each section! Because of the contents of some of the sections, Word sometimes automatically increments the section number. So, I would like to use page numbers such as below. But, I might be forced to use only numbers without text throughout the document. Description of document PAGE numbers: Cover Page does not show a page number. Table of Contents and list of figures pages are in small Roman numerals. Introduction pages are numbered simply 1 to 40. Quote:
For example, the above "Picture33-3" is what I want to use as a page number in the footer. Questions: What are the detailed steps to do this in Word? I've tried everything I can think of without success. What should I definitely not do? Thanks, Mike Last edited by Michael123; 12-17-2019 at 06:32 AM. Reason: Add Icon |

The page number itself is inserted using a { PAGE } field. The text is just text.
Insert the page field in each section with the accompanying text that you require for that section and make sure that each subsequent section is unlinked from its predecessor.

To add to what Graham has suggested, see the following article by MVP Suzanne S. Barnhill; it discusses section breaks, page number options and headers/footers:

That works perfectly. I went on to hide the curly brackets by highlighting each bracket, right clicking, selecting font, and choosing hidden. Thank you |

You may want to be using a StyleRef Field.
