Default Placeholders

Hello,

I need to insert placeholders for author names and corresponding author details using Microsoft word. Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks

Not sure what, exactly, you mean about placeholders.
Does the Document Inspector help?

Apologies - I am helping to write a document, where there will be multiple authors and corresponding author details such as email address. However, I do not know yet who will be included hence I need to insert placeholders on the front page.

Do you perhaps want Content Controls? I would recommend "plain text" ones.
You could put together a small table with name and email spots, then save that table as an Repeating Section Content Control. Give directions on using the control to your authors.

I am not sure. I am not familiar with content controls or placeholders. My only instruction is to draft a cover page with placeholders for the author names and corresponding author details. That's the written instruction word-for-word.

They can serve as either. You fill them with the text when they change from placeholders to texts.

Could you advise the steps you took to create that?

  1. I created a table. (2x2)
  2. I put a prompt in the first cell.
  3. I put a Plain-Text Content Control in the second cell.
  4. I repeated steps 2 & 3 in the next row of the table.
  5. I selected the table and put it in a Repeating Section Content Control.
  6. I saved the document.
The control to insert a table is on the left end of the Insert tab.
The ones for the Content Controls are on the Developer Tab.

I slightly modified the placeholder text in the Content Controls using the Design Mode (also on the Developer Tab) and then turning that mode off.
You can download the attachment file and examine them yourself.
