Default Excel import to Word all gibberish

Hi, new to the group..

I should probably start off by saying I just got a new laptop and freshly installed MS Office 2013 onto the laptop. I haven't done much but up until now it's been working fine.

I'm trying to make a small directory with a list of about 40 names (first, last and nick name) for a publication.

The Excel list looks fine until I import it to Word. Any ideas? I Have the Kutools extension if that makes any difference.

It could be a false alarm.

I imported a list I've used in the past and it seems to be working fine. The list I'm trying to use was exported from a membership software website, so the problem may lay there.

The dialog shows you are trying to import a file called ~WRC2830. The tilda ~ normally indicates that the file is a temporary file rather than a real file.

Are you sure you selected the correct file to link to?

User error, sorry about that.

It appears I wasn't following the correct procedure in step two. I should have checked the top option. Once I followed the correct procedure it worked like I remember. That's the problem with only doing certain task once or twice a year.

Thanks for the help..

I note that you have figured out what was happening and I've marked this as solved.

For future reference of anyone finding this thread in a search, imports of Excel data to Word is often best accomplished using Mail Merge.
