Default Word 2010 - Styles pane has disappeared

Using Office 2010 on Win10, fully updated.

In trying to get my Styles pane to stay persistent, I docked it to the right edge. It still required a manual call-up each session. (If anyone knows a fix for this, so that the pane always appears as Navigation does, that would be great.)

In dragging the pane right again, though, it disappeared, and absolutely nothing will bring it back. Clicked the expand button on the Styles ribbon; nothing. Hit Ctrl-Alt-Shift-S; nothing. Tried several forms of reset ribbon and menus to default; nothing. Word behaves as if the panel is there, but it's not.

Any idea how to retrieve it or reset its position? Preferably short of reinstallation?

It is likely off your screen. Here is a macro that should reset it.

Code:
Sub StylesPaneDock()
' Charles Kenyon
    With ActiveDocument.CommandBars("Styles")
        .Visible = True
        .Top = 0
        .Left = 0
        .Width = 260
        .Position = 2
    End With
End Sub

This happens with many panes and dialogs from time to time. In vba, they are called commandbars.

Thanks, I've explored that. I have a triple screen and am used to things moving off into the void, but if anything it should have gone to the right-hand screen.

A VBA snippet to move it to center-screen would be appreciated (I know just enough to hack one together, but I'm sure it can be done in seconds by someone more skilled). I am going to try moving my virtual screen around to see if I can catch it, sort of fishing in the dark...

ETA: and, nope. Fished all around in screen space and no sign of the pane.

Thanks! All fixed.

And I've discovered, in digging around on this, that no, there is no way to make the pane persistent. But macros to the rescue...

If you add a macro named AutoOpen to your normal template with that or similar language, the Styles Pane will be there every time you open a document.

The keys are the .position, .width, and .visible attributes.

The Keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S will now work as well. It was working before, but you couldn't find the pesky pane.
