Default How can you turn schronous scrolling off in Word 2010?

I'm a writer. I use Word 2010. I want to work on two different Word documents while they're displayed on one screen. I get them side-by-side okay, but I can't work on them separately because they scroll together and my synchronous scrolling button is greyed out so I can't turn it off. I've just spent two hours trying to find a solution without success. The easiest solution would be to turn the synchronous scrolling off, but I can't find a way to do it from the Net. Any help would be appreciated.

Try this a Windows functionality so it definitely won't be in synchronous scrolling mode.

Open both docs
Click and hold on the top bar of one of the windows and drag it over to the edge of the screen. It will snap to fill half the screen and the other windows will all appear as thumbnails. If you click on one of those it will fill the other half of the screen.

Synchronous scrolling will be enabled (to turn on or off) if you choose the option in Word to view document windows side by side.

This has also been posted in the Microsoft Community: How do you turn off synchronous scrolling? - Microsoft Community.
