Unable to open files in Office.
Quite a few times when I try to open a file in Word or Excel it tells me that I do not have Office which I do. The file has what looks like a square outlined in red. It does not show as an Excel or word file. It has just started doing this. Can you tell me what I need to do.

Your first sentence implies that you have already opened Word or Excel and are choosing File Open to select the file you wish to open. Your next two sentences imply you are looking at the file in Windows Explorer and probably double-clicking that file. Which is it?
If it is the second, it could be either that the file extension (suffix) is incorrect or that the file extensions are not associated with the correct applications. If that is the case, see what you can find here Search for 'reset file extensions windows 10'

I have gone to the rest default APPs and clicked on reset to the Microsoft recommended defaults. Under that it shows ( Choose Default Apps by file type) (Choose Default Apps by protocol) or Set Default by App. What do i do. do I Choose Default Apps by file type.
