Default Padding/Spacing above and below images

I am trying to reformat a multitude of documents and one of my main issues is the spacing of text and images. I would like a small padding at the top and bottom of each image, and there are TONS of images as these are user guides for our end-users. I have tried different variations of the "Position" and "Text Wrapping" and nothing seems to work.

There has to be something better than going through and hitting return before and after every image... right?

I worked temp as a word processor for many places.

A former company had all images "INLINE WITH TEXT" and set to a style called "Picture" which had paragraph spacing above -- don't recall if they used 6, 9 or 12 points above. They also had a style called Picture Caption, which was centered, bold and also had spacing above of 12 points and 0 below.

Another company insisted on having all pictures INLINE with TEXT and set inside a 1 cell table with White borders 6 points wide.

Possibly you could adapt one of these ideas to fit your needs.

You should be using styles.

Create the style you want to apply to the inline graphics. Give that style the paragraph space before and after that you want.

Then do a search and replace, find "^g" and leave replace with empty but choose the style as a formatting option. Replace All.

Andrew's advice is spot on. With proper before and after paragraph spacing it should provide your padding. I do not see that you would need to do anything with the paragraph before and after. It is important that all of the graphics be in-line with text for this to work, though.
