Does anyone know how to remove deleted template from "homepage" of word?
I created a template and put it in the Custom Office Templates folder but forgot to change the extension from .docx. I went and changed it and deleted the .docx from the folder but it still shows up on the home page and when clicked it tells me "sorry, we couldn't find your file. Was it moved, renamed or deleted?"
Deleted everything from the template folder but it is still appearing (see attachment for what I mean) |

Uhm, your screenshot is not telling me anything.
If possible, reduce the size of screenshots. Very wide screenshots make it difficult to read your posts. How to attach a screenshot or file in this forum. |

Try right-clicking on the non-existent template and telling Word to remove it or delete it.

Sorry about that. I did try right clicking (as well as now deleting the Custom Office Templates file) but the only options it gives me is create or pin.

You are looking at the recent templates. You can use five other templates to make it the sixth most recent template used.
If you are comfortable hacking the registry, you can search for that filename and you will find it in one of Word's MRU lists.

Click the image below to see a short video of the removal of an unwanted ‘Recent Template’ shown in the File > Home screen in normal circumstances via the Registry.
My example uses an unwanted Template called ‘Template to remove’ The Registry path to the Recent Template entry can be accessed quickly, by copying the text below in the Code box: Code:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word\Recent Templates You may want to back up (Export) the Recent Templates Reg entry by r/clicking it first as a precaution. It will be saved in Documents by default but you can chose any location of your choice. I have shown the Export process in the video. |
