Default Repeat Table as Header

I'm new to this forum, so please forgive me if I am not following proper procedure to post my question that may be repeated elsewhere. My question is: At the top of my document, I have five rows with four columns. I've selected repeat as header and the table does not repeat onto the next page.

I've searched for tips to fix the issue and found that text wrapping, page breaks within the table, or even preferred size options in the table properties may be the issue. I followed all of the recommended corrections, but nothing is working. I even tried starting with a new document, and that isn't working either.

What am I missing? Is there something else i can try?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Eric

If you want to make five rows repeat as headers, these must be the first five rows of the table. Select the rows and then make use of the option on the Row tab of the Table Properties dialog box. (I have just added a lot of blank paragraphs to one of the subsequent cells to force the table onto a second page.)

Thank you, it looks like it has to be one continuous table in order to repeat on the next page. Is it possible to have the table at the beginning and then free text outside of a table that may carry to the next page?

Yes, repeated headers only work within a single table.

I guess adding a bookmark around the relevant rows and using a cross-reference to the bookmark would be a possibility. That way, you can repeat the rows wherever you want.

I may be mis-reading the situation. But if you merely want the same 5 x 4 table to appear at the top of each page, then other content varying by page and continuing from page to page, you can place a table *inside* the header.

I made a simple text table in the body of a blank page, then copied it, went into the header, and pasted it in there with a title above it. This table repeats on each successive added page. That may not be what you meant, but it's a possibility.

We use a Word form for a photograph log in reports, where the header is a table whose borders align with the table in the body, so that the header only needs to be input once, then the body table sections get updated separately. The header contains the project info and general information, whereas the body table info pertains to the numbered photographs of conditions, and has text describing the issues captured in each photograph. It looks like one table but is two separate ones (header and body). It'll be good to jot down the individual column widths so they line up exactly (along with weights of lines.) -- Ann

Kilroy is correct. You can even format them close enough so that the table in the header can appear to be part of tables on each page, even with intervening text.
