Question Work Folder or Startup Folder

Is there a startup folder for Word 2010 like Excel where selected documents can startup automatically?

I remember there being a Work folder but I can't find something similar.

Thanks in advance.

Yes there is a startup folder but templates work differently with Excel and Word.

Do you want new instances of Word to open multiple new unsaved documents based on templates? Do you want this to happen when you double-click on a Word document? Do you want it to happen if Word is already open and you use File>Open?

Maybe explain exactly what it is that you want to happen.

As Andrew says, your requirement is vague. If you want to open a series of documents when you start Word then see Save Record And Close

If you want to load a set of add-in templates when Word starts then if you have not changed the preferred startup folder it can be located (in English language versions of Windows) by typing
%appdata%\Microsoft\Word\Startup
in the Windows File Explorer Address bar and pressing Enter.

You may find Load Word add-ins for the current session only useful.

Word (and Excel) are poor with regard to working document folders. They used to be better up to Word 2010, but then Microsoft became fixated on cloud based file storage as another potential revenue stream. To address this see also Select Document Template which makes accessing templates from various folders much more practical.

In the Excel folder
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\ XLStart you can create shortcuts to .xlsx spreadsheets and when you start Excel they open automatically.

Previously in Word there was a Work folder that worked the same way.

Basically, I'm looking for the equivalent of XLStart in Word 2010.

Nothing has changed in Word - the startup folder is where I indicated in my earlier reply however it doesn't load documents from links in that folder only global templates.

The Workgroup folder's usefulness has largely been downgraded, but it is still available if configured. Again it doesn't do what you suggest. See Template locations

Here is more on the Startup Folder including locations.
The Startup folder, though, is NOT a location to open documents. It is a location for Add-Ins (Global Templates).
There is NO feature in Word to set particular documents to be opened when you start Word.
There was a Work Menu in the menu versions. As far as I know, it does not function in Word 2010.
There is the ability to pin documents to the Recent Files. Recent is an option on the File Open display.

Graham's Open Documents From List Add-In may be as close as you can get.
