First, that is a Page Break rather than a line break. Using Page-Break-Before formatting for the first paragraph on the following page is preferable to this.

Second, turn off display of non-printing formatting if you do not want to see these. (I prefer to see them.) They do not print.

"Using Page-Break-Before formatting for the first paragraph on the following page is preferable to this."

If I return after a Heading 2 styled line Word defaults to Normal style. I then type the next Heading 2 line. I set my course in front of the line I just typed and insert a "Page Break". Word moves the new line to the next page and put a light blue line on the previous page. That line matches the Heading 2 Style I have set up. If I delete that line on the previous Page I lose the Heading 2 Style for the line I just typed. So I', not sure what you are talking about in the quoted line above.

Do not use manual page breaks.
Format the paragraph that you want to start a new page with the formatting "Page Break Before."

Please read the links, starting with the one about reveal codes.

I did that in the beginning but it gave me a blank page between Heading 1 and Heading 2.
I don't want a blank page.
Sample format:
Heading1
Heading2
Body
Heading2
Body
Heading1
etc.

  1. You can add or remove "page break before" as direct paragraph formatting or it can be part of the style.
  2. Please tell me that you have read the links provided.
