Default How do I clear this editing tool?

I am trying to print a doc but there is something on the right side of the page that I can't get rid of. It's some kind of error checking and it popped up while I was editing the doc and I couldn't clear it. What is it and how do I get rid of it?

If the object is repeating on every page, it is most likely anchored to the header paragraph in the document. You can double-click the header area to activate the header/footer view and then select and delete the object.

Alternatively, you can upload your document here and someone will have a look at it.

Thanks, I appreciate your response.

It turns out that these were "Comments" that got added as I was editing the document. There were 3 of them!

I can't, for the life of me, figure out how I could have, inadvertently, added all 3, without realizing it!

Are you familiar with the Track Changes functionality? Assuming yes, and the comments are coherent, then someone who used the document before you got it probably added them—Word identifies the commenter via name or initials.

I'm afraid not.

My first word processor was Word Perfect and I've never really gotten comfortable with MS Word, partly because I don't use it very much, except when I need to write business letters.

Nope, that's not it, I'm the only one in the document, so all those comments had my hame on them.

What is the shortcut or activation command for causes a comment to be created, because all I've done in the document is type and make revisions?

The default shortcut for inserting a comment in Word is Ctrl+Alt+M.

There is also a shortcut for activating/deactivating tracked changes: Ctrl+Shift+E.
