Default adjusting page number margin in TOC

I am using headings for a table of contents. The text entries are lengthy, some 3 and 4 lines of text. I would like to set a right margin for the text about an inch to the left of all the page numbers which I would like against the right margin. I figured out how to adjust the right margin for the text, but can't get the numbering to line up nicely, much less extend an inch past the text.

Something like this is what I what:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet
consectetuer adipiscing elit......1

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet
consectetuer adipiscing elit......2

Hi! It looks like your table of contents isn't going to be numbered (or lettered) down the left side then?

If you've already got some TOC text populated, try opening the Styles panel. You should see the style for TOC1 (your header 1 level table of contents entry). Right mouse click on TOC1 and hit Modify.

Go to Format in the lower left corner of the modify style window, and select Paragraph. You can then adjust your Indentation on the right to where you want your text to end. I used 0.7 for my trial. Then click on the Tabs button in the lower left of that window. Set a right tab stop position. Mine defaulted to the right margin, or 6.5". That should be where your page numbers justify. Hit OK on that, then back out at the main Modify Style window, click on the "Justify" icon under your font. That should justify the text portion of your TOC entry.

I hope that works for you. It gave me results that seemed like what you were looking for.

Default it worked!

It worked just as you described. Many thanks. And to answer your question, the heading numbers are appearing on the left which was not necessary, but I'll take it.

Glad that worked! I was only thinking about how if you used a numbering system, you'd probably have indents on the left hand side as well, and whether or not you wanted the wrapped line to justify all the way left or to the tab to the right of the numbering system would come into play.

Default margins and indent on left side

I didn't think about it because what appeared automatically was adequate.

Thanks for the answer.
