Default Specify font style in wildcard search

I need to find gene names like B-lym, c-K-ras, and v-abl and convert them to italicized forms like B-lym, c-K-ras, and v-abl. The non-italic portions could use various letters, so I need to use wildcards.

Is there a way to specify roman or italic font in the Find What and Replace With fields?

You can specify Times New Roman as the font, for example but, if the text contains a mix of italics and non-italics, you can't specify italics or not italics.

Thanks, Paul. Bad news, but at least I know now. A supplementary question: If I wanted to find an all-italic term and change it to all Roman, how would I specify the fonts?

In that case, specify italics as a Find parameter and Times New Roman as a Replace parameter. Pretty simple, really.

I think this can be done with a series of search/replaces. For instance, using wildcard searches
Find: ([a-zA-Z]{1})-([a-z]{3})>
Replace: \1-zzI\2zzI

Find: zzI([a-z]{3})zzI
Replace: \1 - with Italics formatting

Just in case you need some more specifics:

You need the advanced find/replace (CTRL-H). Put your cursor in the FIND box. Before you type in the text,

Click on the button that says MORE
Click on the button that says FORMAT
Click on FONT
Select ITALIC

Now type the text you need to find. Notice that under the find box, it will mention italic text

Now put your cursor into the REPLACE box, and repeat the FORMAT, FONT, and choose regular or Not italic

By the way you could use the CTRL-I key, instead of the more button. CTRL-I once chooses italic, CTRL-I twice turns it off
