Default Line in the middle, and at 1/3 and 2/3 of the paper

Hi all,

I’m using Word 2016, in Windows 10.

I wanna create a faded horizontal line in the middle of the paper, just to show where the middle is, according to what I right so that I know how it will look when I fold it after printing it out. This line should of course not move when I insert rows etc, and it should not be printed out, just be seen on the screen/in Word.
Is this possible?

If so, I also want to create 2 of the same lines, to show 1/3 and 2/3 of the paper …

Kind regards
lassebasse

What I did was create a 3 row table the full height of the page with no margins top or bottom. Keep the left and right margins set to normal. Only apply gray table lines to the bottom of the top row and the top of the bottom row. Take a snippet shot of the entire page. save that as a picture. open the document you want to see the third page lines in and got to the design tab - select watermark - custom watermark - choose "picture watermark" - scale = 100% uncheck "washout". If you don't want to see after printing, remove watermark before printing.

Hmm, I can't seem to get the watermark picture right. Could you upload watermark pictures with 1 line (in the middle), and 2 lines (at 1/3 and 2/3 of page), please?

Many thanks in advance!

How about an alternative method using a Text Box to get what you want.
The first Text Box is drawn/inserted and sized at 14.85 x 22cm (wider width than the A4 size). Fine tuning the size can be done manually by inputting a size or by the up/down arrows and the Wrapping is set to Behind Text.
This size is half an A4 paper size.
If a user is using say Letter size in inches, they can change the dimensions to suit.

The Shape Outline/Fill colour and Weight can also be changed should a user wish to do so for clarity.
This half A4 size box, when selected can be positioned/moved using the arrow keys so ‘both’ sides and the top aren’t seen.

Text/content can be added to the top (half A4) to see how it looks with a chosen formatting and content won’t move the Text Box vertical dimension or position as more is added.

This created Text Box can also be resized, when selected, to 9.9cm x 22cm which is one third of an A4 page.
Once resized, it can be repositioned to the center of the A4 page by using the Position option in the Format group.
I have set the position to Position in Middle Center with Square text wrapping.
This Wrapping must be changed to Behind Text as before so any content added is over the Text Box.

This Text Box gives the illusion of two horizontal lines now which show the top, middle and bottom thirds which should give you what you want.
You could save the document (with inserted Text Box) as a Template for future use should you wish to.
Click the image below to see a short video of the above procedure.
Remember to hide/remove the Text Boxes before any printing or opt to temporarily un-check Print drawings created in Word in the Options. File > Options > Display > Printing Options > Uncheck ‘Print drawings created in Word’ > OK.

Wow, Thanks! Great video, Moonshine!

I'll test that as soon as I have the time.

Couldn't wait to test ...

Great Moonshine, it works, but I still have another request …

Is it possible to, in the same way as with the text boxes, only show a small “marker” on each side of the page at each position? I mean instead of the line?
A small marker at the very left and a small marker at the very right of the page …?

If this is possible, the small markers could also be printed out, for easy folding, or not ...

You could try inserting a small Line(s) (size experimental to start with) and position two on the left and two on the right. One at 9.9 cm (third of page) and one at 19.8 cm (two thirds of page).
The initial created line is copied when it has been positioned, and then pasted so we have four lines in total (in my example). Two on the left side and two on the right side.
Click the image below to see how I have achieved this.

Thanks kilroy. I actually meant for you to upload the watermark pictures for each solution, since I didn't get that right (I mean the pictures that I should insert as watermarks).

I’m sure kilroy will post the relevant files you want, but in the mean time, if you have a Word document with an embedded Watermark, it is easy to ‘extract’ that Watermark and either save it as a picture for future use, or copy it, then paste it in a new or existing document.

With a document open, d/click the Header to open it.
This enables a Watermark to be saved/copied.
The Watermark becomes active/selected and you can r/click to Save as picture in a location of your choice for future use, or simply opt to Copy and use in another document.
When it is copied, as in my example below, when the Watermark is pasted into the Header (using the destination theme option) it appears and can be activated by clicking it and in this case, the faint ‘lines’ can be stretched outwards over the margins.
To stretch both sides at the same time equally, press the Ctrl key and use one of the middle, side ‘handles’.
Clicking an empty space in the document shuts the Header to further editing and the print preview should show the faint lines at a third and two thirds in this case.
As the lines are placed in the Header, the lines are a Watermark and no Wrapping is needed to prevent movement.
Click the image below to see how I have used kilroys ‘third line test copy’ document to use the Watermark lines in another new document.

For some reason I can't attach the .png even though they are within the height and width limits. If you want I can send them by email to you.
