Default How to compare old draft to current draft?

I've just switched over from Word 2003 to Office 365 (finally).

In Word 2003 it was easy to compare the document you're working on with a prior draft - the "Compare versions" command would prompt for the path to the prior version, then show the differences in legal redline format.

In the current (Office 365) version of Word, the only way I can find to do this is:

1) Review>Compare
2) Find old version
3) Find the new version (the very same file I already have open!)
4) Do the compare

This works, but it's many more steps than it used to be in Word 2003 - the new version of Word doesn't seem to want to compare anything to the file I already have open.

Is there a workaround or another way to do this that's less time-consuming?

If you used Track Changes, you could simply toggle between the Final and Original views (with or without markup). To compare two versions of the document, go to Review|Compare. If you haven't yet saved the revised version, it will be listed - possibly as something like 'Document 1'.
