Print two pages per page but in reverse order
I am printing a book, which is in A5 size but I have A4 size paper (A4 diveded by 2 = A5).
I have printed all odd number of pages, which are printed fine in this order (per page), 1 3 5 7 9 11 The problem is when I Print even number of pages, the printer print like this 4 2 6 4 12 8 As you can see, as I have to insert the page which is printed [1 3] with 3 towards the printer, it print 2 opposite 3 and 4 opposite 1 which is incorrect. I want to print 4 opposite 3 and 2 opposite 1. I know I can do it page by page by issuing [4,2] command but is there is a way do it in batch? for the whole document, i.e., even pages? |

Check out the bookfold page setup, under Page Layout>Page Setup>Margins>Multiple Sheets.

I did but I am a little confused in that. I want to print a demo version of the book which will be A5 size. I have already formatted it in A5 paper.
When I select "book fold", it shrinks my page even further which makes me think I should format pages accoring to A4 size. But then problem is my book should be formatted per A5 size. Also book fold works for any number of pages? How does the printing actually work? |

To get the best results from the Book Fold option in Word, it is perhaps advisable to set the conditions required first before any content is added. This helps prevent formatting issues that you are experiencing.
My example will be using A4 default blank document and the printer I’m using is the type which prints one side at a time, not a duplex/print both sides printer. Open Word with a blank document on view. Click the Page Layout tab and then expand the Page Setup options. In Margins, set the Multiple pages to Book Fold. This turns the A4 document to Landscape where the 2 A5 sized pages are automatically added. Now set your Margins, then the Gutter size. The Gutter is where the pages are stitched, glued, stapled ext. The showing page, as well as any added, is now in the correct ‘condition’ for added content. When your pages are finished (I've used 4), go to the Print settings by your usual method. In the Settings, click the Print One Sided tab, then the Manually Print on Both Sides. Clicking the Print tab will print out an A4 sheet with pages 1 and 4 (front and back). An advisory dialog box should pop up telling you to remove the sheet (when printed) and to put back in the printer tray upside down and in the correct orientation to then print the remaining pages (2 and 3) on the reverse of what has just been printed. When the pages are put together and folded, in this example, you get a 4 page document sized at A5. Using 6, 8, 10, 12 pages etc is the same. Click the image below to see a short video showing how I have done this. |

Yes, it can handle any number of pages. All you need do is specify how many sheets per fold (booklet) there'll be. Having done that, Word will work out for itself what needs to be printed on each sheet.

Thank you so much for the video and explanation. I think the trick might be, you have to set the page setup first and then add pages. I had existing document and it did not work when I tried.
I create a test document comprising of 2 A4, pages, using book fold it converted into 5 pages. When I printed it (all), it got printed on 4 pages, with of the page empty. I will experiment with this once again. It shouldn't be that complicated though in my humble opinion, as they have made it complicated. |

The other thing is I have 70 pages A4 size book, which turns into 138 page in book fold. That means I have to add all of them again? Or may be I can do copy and paste...Will check and let you know

As per my advice in post #5, you should be using a paper size of A4 landscape (i.e. with the width set to 29.7cm and the height set to 21cm). In bookfold, this will automatically generate a document with A5 pages. This should be immediately obvious on-screen.
If your A4 document occupied 70 pages, it would be reasonable to expect the A5 format to require anywhere from to 132 to 148 pages - in 4-page multiples - after you've adjusted the margins to suit the smaller format.

Thanks a bunch. I got it done. The document printed correctly by changing format of the existing document.
Some Caveats while printing booklet in Word 1. In Word 2007, the print option is limited. It does not allow your to print "double side manually". I tried giving it pager numbers but even that did not work properly. So use Office 2013 instead. 2. In Word 2013, choose " manual double side printing" if your printer is half duplex like mine. A dialog box will appear right away but do not click. This dialog basically ask to flip over pages. When all pages are done, then put those pages back in the tray and THEN click ok on the dialog. It will print on both sides of the paper. 3. The arrangement works best when pages are multiple of x4 but can print 5 or 6 pages as well, the last pages will print blank. |

The software used to record screen actions, example being showing MS Word procedures is Techsmith Camtasia Screen Recorder and Video Editor. It’s a learning curve as with all software, but is a useful tool when mastered in education and tutorial scenarios. |
