Word 2007 - header alignment problem, different odd and even pages
Formatting a document in Word 2007. I set the headers thus: Insert> Header> Different odd and even pages; from the drop-down menu I selected Contrast (Even page) and Contrast (Odd page). This choice automatically produces the page numbers to the right on recto pages and to the left on verso. I was able to format the header for the verso pages satisfactorily with the header aligned perfectly with the LH margin of the body text.
However, I am unable to get the recto page headers properly aligned with the body text. I can get the RH end of the header (which is actually the automatically produced page number) just slightly to the left of the RH margin of the body text, or just a little to the right. What step(s) am I overlooking to getting the recto headers perfectly aligned? |

Consider posting a sample document with the problem.

Here are three screen shots. The first one is a typical verso page and is exactly what I'm aiming for. The second one shows the misalignment on recto pages having a single-digit page number (header short of the RH margin). The third one is an example with 2+ page numbers--header runs very slightly over.
Thank you for taking a look at this. |

screenshot and sample document are not the same thing. Sorry if I seem cranky.

Indents and tab stops are relevant here. As Charles said, it would be more helpful if you provided an example in Word format (*.docx).

You have every reason to be cranky and I apologize. Attached is a sample taken from the problem document. Photos removed to reduce file size.

You are using Tables in your headers for some reason. You need to align things in them or get rid of the tables and use tabs for your spacing.

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I had no idea my headers were in table format or how that came about. I'll take a shot at re-doing the headers, being careful to avoid anything that seems to lead in that direction.
I appreciate your help very much. |
