Networkrail is on a distinguished road
Default Windows 10 - Office 365.

Good afternoon,

I wonder if you can help me, when I open a word document for some reason a get a duplicate word document in the folder with the same name except the first part:

So if the document is named H123-New Document it then does another document that starts with $123-New Document.

I think this must be a setting but I can't seem to find it to stop the second document from showing up. It's not really a massive issue but just a bugbear that I would like to change.

Thanks

NWR

This page might be useful to you:

Description of how Word creates temporary files

Note: You only see this type of 'ghost' file if you have set hidden files to show.
Many folks don't see them at all.

I think Moonshine has answered your question. The answer is to not worry about them.

If, with Word closed, you see a bunch of these, feel free to delete them. I would definitely leave the option turned on to see hidden and system files.

See the section on "Orphaned Temporary Files" on Graham Mayor's page:
What to do when Word crashes
I periodically search my hard drive for these and delete them.
