Default Word: adding tabs to a heading style

Hi,

Im trying to figure out how I can make a heading style and create some tabs for that style. For example I might use a heading style for a meeting report, with the meeting name, and date, and I want the date in the same place each time I use that style.
Im using Word 2016 for mac

thanks

dan

You can add tab-stops to a Style, but you can't add tab characters.

Via Format>Tabs in the 'Modify Style' dialogue box.

Probably more useful than a style would be an AutoText Entry perhaps with MacroButton Fields at the spot where you want to enter the information.

I fail to see how that would be better than a Heading Style.

An AutoText entry can contain Content Controls or Macrobutton fields to prompt for the needed information. The tab stops or a table would still need to be part of this for positioning.

So, it's not "more useful than a style". Rather, it's something that might be used in conjunction with one … . This is especially so if the OP's Heading is to appear in a Table of Contents.

I can't figure out what to do in the Modify Style format tab dialog box. I don't understand what I need to do to add a tab stop. there is a box "Tab stops:" which is an empty text box. not sure what to do there

You use that dialogue box the specify the tab attributes - position, left/right/centre etc., leaders. The empty box is where you type the number of in/cm or whatever units you're using for the tab-stop position.
